Tonon takes regular classes under John Danaher at Renzo Gracie's Academy in NYC. In this video, Professor Danaher (in a Madama rashguard) is talking about Tonon:

Which leads me to my point: The techniques used by Tonon to defeat Kit Dale are well-known to the students of Madama Jiu-Jitsu Academy. Read what Kory Acchione, Madama Jiu-Jitsu purple belt, wrote on Facebook shortly after watching the Tonon-Dale match:

As witnessed during the first match of Metamoris 4. You were able to once again see John Danaher’s techniques being utilized at the highest level of competition via Garry Tonon.

As some of you may already know Professor Madama continues his education by taking private lessons with John Danaher. We are very fortunate that Professor Madama is willing to not only continue his education but to share it with us as well. We are extremely fortunate to have such a dedicated Professor in Josh Madama.

Professor Madama sacrifices his time driving into the city so he can bring back world class Jiu Jitsu to our academy. Professor Madama ensures that we learn the best Jiu Jitsu possible.

In return let’s make sure we show our appreciation and make it to class.
